ELIGIBILITY

To apply for the SJTU International Graduate Program, one should meet the following requirements

1.      Non-Chinese citizen;

2.     Healthy both physically and mentally;

3.    Outstanding academic performance and potentiality;

4.    Having obtained a Bachelor's degree or equivalent for master program applicants; (The degree must be ready prior to the registration day) 

5.    Having obtained Master's degree or equivalent for doctoral program applicants; (The degree must be ready prior to the registration day)

6.    Demonstrated proficiency in Chinese and/or English as specified in

        Language Requirements for SJTU International Graduate Programs.pdf

HOW TO APPLY
Step 1: Complete the Online Application

Complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/, http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn) by the application deadline. 
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made using RMB or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system. 

MATERIALS TO PREPARE

► Degree certificates, in scanned files. Applicants who have not graduated by the time of application are required to provide an official letter from their current university stating the expected graduation date.

Transcripts, in scanned files. Master’s program applicants are required to submit

undergraduate transcripts. Doctoral program applicants are required to submit

both undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

►Scanned copy of passport.

►Passport-size photo.

►Personal statement and study plan.

► Two letters of academic recommendation from scholars who are associate

professors or above, or senior professionals in a related academic field. Please

follow the instructions on the online system for submission of online

recommendation letters or upload the recommendation letters with original

signatures.

(Note: If your documents are not in English or Chinese, please have them translated into either English or Chinese by an authorized translation agency. Then upload both the translated and original documents onto the application system.)

TUITION AND HOUSING FEES 

► Tuition:

RMB 28,900/Year for Master’s programs (Approx. USD 4,200/ Year)

Tuition may differ for special programs. For more information, please check SJTU 2020 international graduate program list.

► On-campus housing:

RMB 50-160/Day (Approx. USD 8-25/Day)

On-campus housing has limited capacity and is not guaranteed.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Basically, for incoming international graduate students, there are two channels for scholarship application: through Shanghai Jiao Tong University or through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country. Applicants may choose only one application channel. Replicated applications through more than one channel is not allowed.

 When applying at http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/ applicants should choose “apply for scholarship through SJTU”and follow the steps online. Applicants should complete the scholarship application procedures in time according to the requirements of the university.

The earlier an applicant completes the application, the sooner he/she receives an offer of admission and scholarships if the review result from the university is positive. Applicants can check the scholarships result through the application system.  The formal offer of scholarships will be sent along with the formal admission letter.

2. Apply for scholarships through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country

Applicants may also apply to the Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the home country for scholarship opportunities. The application schedule varies from country to country (usually from November to April).

Please consult the Chinese Embassy/Consulate about its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, documents, agency number, program category type and so on in advance.

Important Notes:

In general, scholarships duration cannot be extended.

For international students admitted in the special graduate programs with university scholarships (Doctoral Program type III/Master Program typeⅡ/Master Program type III) in Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Antai College of Economics & Management and USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry, China-UK Low Carbon College, the scholarship will only cover the university’s standard tuition of 28,900RMB/Year for master’s programs ), and students will have to pay the rest of the tuition of these programs.

Graduate students in SJTU can also apply for certain TA or RA positions on campus.

All scholarship recipients are obliged to participate in the annual scholarship review in April and/or May which will confirm their scholarship status in the next academic year.

4. Information on Insurance

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, People’s Republic of China, all international students who will stay in China for more than 6 months are required to purchase the Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China. The insurance is one of the required documents for on-site registration, and insurances issued by other agencies are not recognized.

EDUCATION 
Objective

Upon graduation, masters of SLSB, SJTU should meet the following requirements:

· Grasp basic theory of biology and experimental techniques with a solid biological foundation；

· Be familiar with the development in related area;

· Have a good command of a foreign language;

· Be competent in scientific research and management.

Academic and Credits

The study period for full-time graduates of SLSB is two and a half years.

During the first academic year, students should fulfill at least 30 total credits. All courses should be finished in the first academic year. In the third semester, students need to begin thesis proposal.

Thesis proposal

Thesis proposal should be completed before the end of the third semester. It is assessed by a committee of experts.

Dissertation

A qualified dissertation should have a reasonable experimental design, a clear technical route with accurate and reliable data. It should meet the level of published core journals. Degree Committee and the experts of thesis proposal will review the thesis in the middle of the fourth semester.
