Dual-degree Programs between SJTU and University of Adelaide

INTRODUCTION

Located in southern Australia, the University of Adelaide (http://www.adelaide.net.cn) has been internationally renowned for its outstanding teaching and research capabilities ranking among the top universities in the world. It has trained five Nobel Prize winners and more than 100 Rhode Prize receivers. As a member of Australia's "Eight Campuses Group", it is considered one of Australia's top universities, ranking 100th in the latest world ranking (QS) in 2014. Bioscience (with 2 Nobel Prize winners), environmental science and social science are its dominant disciplines.

With world-class research facilities and research teams, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (SLSB), SJTU, has got a lot of pioneering, distinctive and internationally influential achievement in recent years. Disciplines like molecular biology and genetics, microbiology, zoology and botany, biology and biochemistry are among the top 1% of ESI in the world. In 2012, biology, as the First-Level Discipline, ranked the third in the subject evaluation of the Ministry of Education and was added to the list of first-class discipline (Type A) construction plan of Shanghai universities. Multi-channel international talent cultivation system was developed.

On May 9, 2012, the two parties jointly signed an agreement on the joint cultivation of dual master's degrees in biology. In March 2015, the two parties signed the agreement of biology 2+2 joint cultivation doctoral students, which is of great significance for SJTU to cultivate first-class talents in life sciences from an international perspective and to enhance the internationalization level.

Type

INTRODUCTION

2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project

Under the double tutorial system and the Four-year Schooling System, students should study there for more than 18 months. They will be conferred doctoral degree of science both from SJTU and the University of Adelaide.

Dual Degree Master Joint cultivate Project

Under the double tutorial system and the 2.5-year Schooling System, students should study there for more than 10 months. They will be conferred master degree of science both from SJTU and the University of Adelaide. Currently, three students have accomplished this multi-cultivation.

 

APPLICATION

Eligibility

  • 2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project:

Bachelor's degree receiver; Ph.D., direct Ph.D. candidates enrolled in biology, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine and other related fields at SJTU

Dual Degree Master Project

Bachelor's degree receiver; masters enrolled in biology, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine and other related fields at SJTU
English Level

IELTS ≥6.5 points L/S/R/W ≥6.0;  TOEFL ≥90 points, L/S/R/W ≥20 points.

FEES

  • 2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project:

Applicants can apply for scholarships from the other school. Supervisors from both sides have the opportunity to help cover relevant expenses.

Dual degree master program:

Mutual exemption of tuition but living expenses are at students’ expense. Supervisors on both sides have the opportunity to help cover relevant fees.

Application Procedure

When SLSB publishes the recruitment for the project applicants submit application materials according to the recruitment requirements after obtaining the approval of their supervisors. The application form can be downloaded from the home page of SLSB and should be sent to the designated mailbox.

SLSB will preview the application materials and interview the applicants. SLSB will organize another round of review and interview to ultimately determine the list of candidates.

2+2 Doctoral Joint Cultivate Project: During their first semester in SJTU, students begin to apply online when finished all the required courses.
2+2Dual Degree Master Project: During their first two years in SJTU, students begin to apply online.

The university of Adelaide will issue admission letter after reviewing and accepting the application. Students shall prepare the formalities for going abroad using the formal admission letter.
