Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is founded on the secondary discipline, one of five departments in School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The department currently contains 8 principle investigators (PIs) and 18 researchers, and will develop to contain 15-18 PIs until 2025. The research fields include microbial enzymology, structural biology, proteomics, and chemical biology. Current faculty members have received several distinguished awards and highly competitive national grants, including the National Science Fund  for Distinguished Young Scholars and NSFC Key Research grants.  The department is still undergoing fast development and has been actively recruiting young talents at various levels. Our faculty members have made a number of innovative research findings in multiple fields including synthetic biology, enzyme engineering, natural products, DNA-modification, and protein secretion systems. These findings are published in internationally reputable journals including Nature Microbiology, Nature Communications, and PNAS.
